Pedestrian Bridge, Between Al Maryah Tower and Galleria Mall

Project Description

The pedestrian bridges on Al Maryah Island reinforce physical and visual linkages to these spaces and contribute to the quality of the public realm in terms of architectural expression and pedestrian connectivity. A key feature of Al Maryah Island’s public realm is the network of conditioned routes permeating the structure of the built environment. These enable pedestrians to move comfortably around the island at all times of the day and night, facilitated by a range of different measures to reduce ambient temperature, particularly during the warmer periods of the year when pedestrian comfort becomes more challenged The bridge aim to connect the mall south side with Maryah Tower north side, it is closed, airconditioned, and providing a safe and comfort indoor environment for pedestrians

Project Details

  • Sector : Commercial
  • Role :  Concept Design, CGI, BIM LOD 350, DD, TD, ADM
  • Total Area : 300 m²
  • Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
  • Scope: Architecture and Interior Design, Design Development, Authority Package, Tendering
  • Employer: Obermeyer Middle East

Role and Responsibilities

  • Led architectural design for a pedestrian link bridge connecting two existing developments — Maryah Tower and Galleria Mall — establishing concept vision, circulation strategy, and integration approach within a complex built environment.

  • Developed design solutions addressing the primary technical challenges of structural system coordination and façade integration between two independently designed buildings and the new bridge structure.

  • Coordinated closely with structural engineers and façade specialists to align structural load paths, connection strategies, and architectural expression across differing building systems.

  • Guided iterative design development from concept through Design Development, resolving interface conditions and ensuring continuity between the existing façades and the new architectural intervention.

  • Balanced architectural intent with technical constraints, accessibility requirements, and constructability considerations to deliver a cohesive and buildable solution.

  • Facilitated multidisciplinary collaboration to manage design dependencies and mitigate risks associated with working between existing structures.
